15 Things to Do in New Braunfels in April

1. Create at Kids Fest

The 6th Annual Kids Fest is happening the first weekend of April at the Comal County Fairgrounds. Benefitting the non-profit Callen Hughs Foundation, this hands-on creative festival is designed to have kids interact and create at dozens of activity stations and over 150 exhibits. Let the kids open up their imagination this weekend at Kids Fest!

When: Saturday, April 1st, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

2. Take a Wine Class

Now is the time to sign up for another year of classy learning of Winery U at Dry Comal Creek Vineyards. This weekend, the class is titled, “10 Wine & Food Pairings That Will Knock Your Socks Off.” Dry Comal Creek is known for fun classes filled with delicious information. Plus, you can drink wine during class, and when could you ever do that before? Register here!

3. Rock-N-Roll with the Kids

This first weekend in April is full of many fun things for the kids, including the 15th Annual Rock N Roll Kids (benefiting Communities in Schools). Get over to the New Braunfels Civic Convention Center and enjoy some great food, entertainment, and a silent and live auction. This is a great opportunity to support the 3100+ at-risk youth in the Communities in Schools program.

4. See The Avett Brothers Live

The Avett Brothers are back on the road this spring. One of rock-and-roll’s most raucous live bands is returning to the Whitewater Amphitheater in April. In support of their latest album “True Sadness,” The Avett Brothers are coming to New Braunfels to bring their live energy show that has only gotten better as the years go on. Opening the show is rock band St. Paul and the Broken Bones, so be sure to get your tickets and get there early! Tickets can be purchased here.

5. Learn the Jitterbug

For the next eight weeks, Swing Junction is hosting a class on the “Jitterbug Swing”! Work with professional dancers each week in a progressive series on how to step, move, turn, and eventually add all the flair you want to the dance floor. Do it with a partner, the family, or go solo! Register here and check back for updates.

6. Participate in a Golf Challenge

On Wednesday, April 5th, Landa Park Golf Course is hosting a Masters Par 3 Challenge. Individual players throw in $40 to try and sink the holes in just three strokes. Break up the week with a little fun in the evening with some golf, heavy appetizers, and beer for all who join!

7. See a Broadway Play

You have probably heard of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s famous play “Hamilton” or his new movie “Moana,” but one of his first great successes was Broadway’s “In the Heights,” an adaptation which will be performed at the Brauntex Theatre this April. It’s the story of a group of Manhattan residents and the trials of love and life. Tickets are available on the Brauntex website, so get them before they sell out!

8. Visit Folkfest

Head on over to the Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture to experience FolkFest, a weekend of New Braunfels heritage and culture. Located on 11 acres of beautiful Texas land, this festival is full of entertainment, craft beer and wine, food, shopping, and educational segments for the whole family to enjoy. Bonus Tip: If you come dressed in a period costume, you get free admission!

9. Learn to Be a Leader

Ever wondered what it takes to be a great leader? This month, the Alamo Drafthouse will be simulcasting a leaderships seminar called “LeadershipLab” on screen. Learn the essentials of character, humility, wisdom, and more with great speakers like Patrick Lencioni (Best-Selling Author), Jimmy Johnson (Super Bowl Champion), and Robyn Benincasa (World Champion Adventure Racer). 10. Hop in the Water at TSR

Texas Ski Ranch is opening up the weekend of April 8-9th for their annual Spring Demo Days. Get out on the water and try out over 90 kayaks, test out stand up paddleboards, and participate in clinics hosted by professionals throughout the day. Be sure to pack a lunch if you want to stay out all day. Oh, and did we mention this event is free?!

11. Head to Schlitterbahn

Over Easter weekend, our favorite water park will host “Schlitterbahn Lite” days, in which the park will open up the Blastenhoff section for families to come enjoy a preview before the full summer season. Grab a tube, grab a friend, and head over to Schlitterbahn before the park gets packed full for the summer with tourists.

12. See a Music Legend

Whitewater Amphitheater is hosting Texas country legend Willie Nelson for TWO nights on April 21-22. Ol’ Willie is dropping a new album soon entitled “God’s Problem Child” and will be performing new as well as classic tunes at the show. 13. Get an Early Taste of Wurstfest

Wurstfest is hosting its 3rd annual Craft Beer Festival this April! Head on over to the Wurstfest grounds to enjoy over 80+ craft beers from several breweries. Live music will keep the train rolling throughout the day, and there will be plenty of beer to go around. It’s hard to be so far away from Wurstfest, so this is a great opportunity to live it like Christmas in July! Tickets are available here.

14. Bring the Kids to Playtime

Roly Poly Playtime is happening at the New Braunfels Recreation Center every Monday from 10:00AM-Noon. Children ages 6 months - 5 years can participate in activities like obstacle courses, imagination play, sensory play, music, and arts and crafts. It is $8 per child, and kids under 12 months get in free!

15. Go to Crawfest 2017

Live music, fresh crawfish, and more are happening at this years Crawfest. A carnival for the kids, some crawfish races, a 5K Crawdaddy Dash, a Gumbo Competition, and a washers tournament is all going down the last weekend of April. Buy tickets here!
