1. Take a Yoga Class…On the Water

Have you been looking for a way to spice up your yoga class? Try finding your inner peace while balancing on a stand-up paddle board in Lake Dunlap. Meet either for a Saturday sunrise session at 8:00 AM or a Thursday night sunset session at 6:30 PM! Be sure to bring $45 for a paddle board rental and class fees ($30 if you bring your own board). Bring everything you think you’d need for a water-based activity, and find your breath and balance floating on calm waters.

2. Run a Dog Day 5K

What is more appealing in the dog days of summer than sweating more than you have to? Regardless, New Braunfels wants to stay fit and race for a cause in this summer’s Dog Days 5K! The course is a double loop in Fischer Park with hills and other challenges to benefit local charities. Register here!

3. Stomp Some Grapes

Make your way to Dry Comal Creek Vineyards the first weekend in August for a good old fashioned grape stomp. For $150 per couple, enjoy a day of stomping, drinking, dancing, and eating. Cajun food will be provided, along with some wine, commemorative glasses, and t-shirts. To mark the occasion, you will have your name on the 2017 Foot Pressed Red Table Wine bottle. 4. See Miranda Lambert Perform

Miranda Lambert is taking the stage Friday, August 4th and Saturday, August 5th at the Whitewater Amphitheatre. As the summer sun goes down, what better way to enjoy the Hill Country than a concert by the Guadalupe River with friends and family? Wade Bowen is performing as a special guest at both shows. 5. Participate in a Junior Golf Championship

Junior golfers ages 8-18 in the Comal, Guadalupe, and Hays Counties are encouraged to compete in the Junior City Golf Championship at the Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs. Entry fees include a gift, 9 or 18 holes of tournament golf (depending on what you choose), and a daily lunch. More information is available here.

6. Take Swing Dancing Lessons

Gruene Hall is teaching East Coast Swing dancing lessons in a one-hour class before every Two Ton Tuesday show in August. This is a great class for new swing dancers or those who want to brush up on some more technical skills. Classes begin at 6:00 PM and are just $8 per person. Make sure to stick around for Two Tons of Steel that night to show off what you learned!

7. Spend a Day at the McKenna Children’s Museum

The McKenna Children’s Museum is putting on several fun events throughout August for toddlers and kids to enjoy. From creating foil sculptures and learning to use microscopes to building catapults and having classes with puppies, there is plenty for the kids to do a McKenna.

8. Sing Karaoke at The Phoenix Saloon

Bring a few friends down to The Phoenix Saloon on Wednesday nights in August to sing some of your favorite tunes. Regardless of your skill level, karaoke is a fun way to break out of your comfort zone and sing the way you would in the shower when no one is home.

9. Check Out the Gourd Festival

The gourds are back in town this month (too much?) at the Lone Star Gourd Festival. Show up to see ancient decoration techniques, along with other skills like carving, woodburning, and coiled manipulation. There will also be a competition for the People’s Choice of Best Gourd announced on Sunday.

10. Attend a Gala

The New Braunfels High School All Sports Booster Club is throwing their first Go Blue Gala, an event to help raise funds for all the Unicorn athletes of New Braunfels High School. 11. Send the Teens to a Lock-in

Fiesta Bowling Lanes is hosting a back-to-school teen lock-in to close out the summer before the kiddos head back to continue their studies. Bring your friends, sleeping bags, toothbrushes, and a good attitude while you bowl all night, compete in games for prizes, and watch movies while you scarf down popcorn in your pajamas. 13. Have a Social Night Out
