New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This weekend is no exception; there are a variety of different “things” happening in and around town. No need to research, five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!
1. Support budding talent at the Brauntex Theatre

This weekend, The Performing Arts Academy of New Braunfels is hosting several performances of Pinkalicious at the Brauntex Theatre. Based off the popular children’s book by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, Pinkalicious is the adorable tale of a little girl who simply can’t stop eating pink cupcakes. Unfortunately, her obsession causes her to contract Pinkititis, an ailment that causes her to turn pink from head to toe! Whether you have kids or not, this adorable performance is a must-see this weekend. The Performing Arts Academy of New Braunfels is a non-profit organization devoted “to promoting the arts in New Braunfels and surrounding areas by providing quality performances for all ages to enjoy.” Their mission is to promote the tradition of the arts to enrich the community and encourage young people to participate and enjoy theatre, music, art, photography, and film, among others. To support the Academy and enjoy Pinkalicious, head to Nbperformingarts.com for tickets ($10 children, $15 adult).

2. Hit the trail in the Natural Bridge Caverns
Whether you’re an experienced half-marathon runner or more of a slow-paced 5K walker, you can’t miss this weekend’s Natural Bridge Cavern Trail Run! If you think you’ve been to a race like this, think again. This unique course is designed less for speed and more for the beauty around you. This trail run is the only race in the world that begins in the belly of a cave! Start the route in Texas’ largest caverns and continue into the beauty of the Texas Hill Country sunrise.
These caverns were formed by currents of water that shaped the limestone over the years. According to their website, Natural Bridge Caverns is the most extensive cavern within the San Antonio area (as well as one of the largest within the state of Texas!). If you’ve never been to the caverns, this weekend’s trail run is a great opportunity to experience the wonder.
When: Sunday, Half Marathon begins at 7:30am
Where: 26495 Natural Bridge Caverns Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266

Are you itching to get out on the course? This Saturday, the Landa Golf Course at Comal Springs will host The Big Chill, a 4-person scramble on the beautiful 18-hole golf course. If you’re feeling really good about your golf game, you can even compete against the staff to win additional prizes! The $75 entry fee includes tournament golf, cart, lunch and prizes.
In case you aren’t familiar with this type of tournament, a 4-man scramble is just what it sounds like: a four-player team competing for the prize. Each team's players tee off, then choose to continue with the best of the four shots. All four players then hit from that spot, and so on. May the best golfers win. Register today! The Landa Park Golf Course, which rests on over 120 beautiful acres of Texas Hill Country land, is the perfect place to enjoy this weekend’s sunny weather.
When: Saturday, begins at 8:30am

5. Get your hip-hop fix at the Dilla Day Celebration
February marks an important month for hip hop fans across the world. This month is widely acknowledged as a chance to celebrate the life and work of the late producer J Dilla. Born James Dewitt Yancey, J Dilla emerged during the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. His music and talent heavily influenced his genre and, according to NPR, made him “one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists.”
Cities across the country acknowledge this weekend as a tribute to J Dilla...including New Braunfels! This Friday, the 2nd Annual Dilla Day Celebration will take place at 2Tarts Bakery in downtown New Braunfels. A Dj, live painting, craft beer, and fresh donuts will punctuate the evening, which runs 8pm-midnight with no cover charge.
When: Friday, 8:00 pm - 12am
