There’s always something happening in New Braunfels! Though the small-town atmosphere is alive and well in this Hill Country town, the local calendar is anything but sleepy. This weekend is no exception: you have your choice of multiple events, deals, and happenings in and around town. No need to research...here are five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend!
1. Celebrate the Local Creative Culture (and land a few deals) at First Friday

Appropriately, the very first event on our weekend list is New Braunfels’ own First Friday! Organized and curated by the New Braunfels Art League, First Friday is a monthly opportunity to shine a much-deserved spotlight on the local art and business scene. From 5:00-9:00pm, W San Antonio Street will come together and come alive with a sort of cultural block party, complete with art demonstrations, door prizes, and a meet-and-greet with local creators. On the small business side of things, First Friday will include a sidewalk sale and special discounts. Participating sponsors include the Dancing Pony Boutique (voted the city’s “Best Boutique” and “Best Women’s Clothing Store”), Clay Casa, and OMGelato!
The New Braunfels Art League was established to promote visual arts in New Braunfels through education, resources, companionship, and collaboration. Stay up to date with their calendar throughout the year...events include art workshops and painting groups, among others.
When: June 3, 5:00-9:00pm
Where: New Braunfels Art League, 239 W San Antonio Street
2. Get Schooled on the Wine Industry at Winery U

If your level of wine connoisseur stops at, “Well, the label is pretty!”, you certainly aren’t alone. While we love to read about tasting notes and regional flavors, the details can get a bit muddled (especially after a glass or two). If you’re interested in upping your wine IQ, you might want to invest in some “formal education” at Dry Comal Creek’s “Winery U”. This two-hour class features topics ranging from the subtleties and intricacies of wine to food-and-wine pairing to what makes a Cabernet Sauvignon the “king of wines”. And yes, since you asked...you’ll also have the opportunity to taste a variety of wines firsthand, from the vineyards of France to the nearby hills of West Texas. Sign up today!
Dry Comal Creek Vineyards is the pride and joy of the Houser family. Started in the 1970s, Comal Vineyards started as just over 100 acres of land just outside of New Braunfels, full of wild mustang grapes and dewberries. Today, the Black Spanish grape vines have made the vineyard a well-renowned pioneer in Texas winemaking.
When: Saturday, 10:30am-12:30pm
Where: Dry Comal Creek Vineyards: 1741 Herbelin Rd
3. Re-Live the Hippie Movement at an Indie Concert

While Texas (and specifically Gruene) has always been a hub for country, bluegrass, and Americana, the lone star state has recently been ushering in a fresh wave of folk and indie music. No event better represents this phenomenon better than this weekend’s concert at the Whitewater Ampitheater: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, an American indie folk band, evokes a 1960’s vibe, drawing from rock, folk, gospel, and psychedelic influences. The concert will feature songs from their fourth studio album “PersonA”, which was released in April 2016. Besides being a “far-out folk band”, the Magnetic Zeroes also operates Big Sun, a non-profit devoted to funding and developing co-ops and land trusts in urban areas around the world. Appropriately, the Whitewater Amphitheater is also very nature-oriented...the state-of-the-art stage and sound system is juxtaposed by the scenic backdrop of the Guadalupe River and the Hill Country landscape.
When: Saturday, 7:30pm
Where: Whitewater Amphitheater, 11860 FM 306

Searching for a truly German way to cruise into the weekend? Look no further than the Hill Country Brew Tour! This weekend’s microbrewery experience, facilitated by OffRhodes Craft Beer Tours, will allow you to enjoy the hoppy fruits of the Hill Country in a safe and leisurely way.
The tour is scheduled to begin with a taste of Underground’s delicious artisan pizza before moving on to three featured breweries. The first, New Braunfels’ very own New Braunfels Brewing Co, offers 8 original, diverse beers on tap. This particular tour will feature information and tastings of sour beer. From there, the tour will travel to Middleton Brewing Co, which features scenic rooftop seating and a wide array of craft beers. Finally, Guadalupe Brewing Co will end the out-of-town trip with a private tour of their unique brewing system and tastings of the award-winning Honey Ale and Scotch Ale. The tour will culminate with a stop at another local gem: Patek’s Craft Beer Bar. See you on the bus!
