New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This weekend is no exception; there are a variety of different “things” happening in and around town. No need to research, five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend are described here. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!
1. Meet Some Sports Legends at the Sports Collectible’s Show
Are you a huge sports fan? Have some favorite players you wish you could watch run the ball one more time? Then this event is for you! With football greats such as Dat Tan Nguyen, former Texas A&M University and Cowboys linebacker, and Mr. Cowboy himself Dan Lilly, old memories will resurface and you may be left speechless. But it’s not only football players that will be there, there will be other guests signing autographs as well as vendors on hand to talk all about sports with you. All guests are welcome, so bring your autographed items and sports card collection!

2. Take the Plunge… The Polar Bear Plunge
Join the Y as they endure the cold for a cause! Take the plunge into the Comal River in an effort to ensure no one is turned away from local YMCA partner programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body based on their inability to pay. Once you are shaking- and maybe feeling like hypothermia might set in- enjoy some s’mores and hot chocolate by the fire pit to warm you up. Bring the whole family- no need to make just one member suffer!
When: Saturday, 10 am – 12 pm
Where: Hinman Island, Comal River
3. Get your Geek on at Jellystone Park
Can you solve a Rubik’s Cube? Master the Force? Then head to Jellystone Park to get your inner (or outer!) geek on at Nerd Weekend! Answer Nerd Trivia, Participate in the Cos-Play contest at Yogi-Con, and let the Geekery begin! For those family members not so into the nerd thing, there will be other activities including volleyball, disc golf, pool, pedal carts, basketball, horseshoes. There will be events from 9 am until dark on Saturday, leaving Sunday to spend with the fam in the park. So put on your fun pants and get ready for a nerdy good time!
When: Friday through Sunday
Where: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Hill Country, 12915 FM 306, Canyon Lake
4. Drive on Down the Road to Luckenbach’s 9th Annual Blues Festival
A town that is known all over Texas for its musical endeavors, this place, population 3, is hosting the 9th annual Blues Festival this weekend. This all ages event presents a full day of blues and features performances by Trent Turner, The Blues Posse, Bill Reid, MoJo Assassins, DieDra Hurdle, Harlis Sweetwater Band, Mac Arnold, and the Ben Beckendorf Band. Texas country singer headliner Ray Wylie Hubbard will be kicking up dust singing some of his newer tunes and throwing it back with some of his classic ones. Dubbed one of Texas' most important blues festivals, this intimate event has sold out in the dance hall but still has grounds only tickets available. Bring a lawn chair and an appreciation for blues and enjoy the day!

Where: 412 Luckenbach Town Loop
5. Eat Some Pizza…Underground
Noted as one of the top 10 restaurants in New Braunfels by savvy Yelpers, Underground Pizza is a must go for a great pie. Literally underground in the basement of an old downtown building, the ambiance is said to be both “funky” and “cool”, with a great variety of music and some unusual pieces of art adorning the walls. But the pizza… From the Mac and Cheese to the Primal “Pies”, all are said to be delicious. While your mouth is watering waiting for that pizza, check out the bar and order up a beer from their very nice selection of local micro-brews while you munch on some cheese wurst. Still not full after dinner? Indulge in some cinnamon bun bread pudding- we’ve heard it’s totally worth the extra calories.
When: Monday-Thursday, 11:00am to 9:00pm, Friday & Saturday, 11:00am to 9:00pm
Where: 202 N Seguin Ave
