New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This weekend is no exception; there are a variety of different “things” happening in and around town. No need to research, five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend are described below. Hopefully this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!
1. Drink Coffee and Learn at Java and Jobs
Get to the Kitchen Table this Friday for Java and Jobs, a casual opportunity to begin the weekend with a cup of coffee and information on job search topics. RSVPs are preferred, but not required and every session is free of charge! If you are in the job market and need a job coach to walk you through the process, this is the place to be every 2nd Friday of the month. Snacks and drinks are provided and Starbucks coffee is available for free.

2. Swing Dance with Asleep at the Wheel
Western Swing legends Asleep at the Wheel take the stage this weekend at the iconic Gruene Hall. These guys have stayed true to their roots and allowed their genre to steadily grow and maintain the backbone of good old fashioned dancing music. Asleep at the Wheel has an impressive history of being a band. Starting playing shows over 30 years ago, the group has earned 20 Grammy nominations over 23 albums. Their newest album, Still the King, was released in March 2015 and has allowed Asleep at the Wheel to usher their patented sound into a new generation. Milkdrive opens the show at 8:00PM.
When: Friday, 7:00PM
Where: Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd
3. Listen to The Charlie Daniels Band
I would not normally post two concerts per weekend, but it would disgrace myself if I did not let you know that the man himself, Charlie Daniels, and his band are performing at Gruene Hall on Sunday. Famous for his hit song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, the Charlie Daniels Band comes to New Braunfels to show the river folk their own brand of country music. CDB has accolades from the Dove Awards for his gospel albums and the CMA awards for his well known country hits. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame, and received not only a Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music, but was also given a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Since 1972, CDB has introduced their Southern rock/country/gospel sound to the masses and hasn’t slowed since. This is a show you do not want to miss.
When: Sunday, 7:00PM
Where: Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd
4. Participate in the Masskrugstemmen
It is nothing but blood, sweat, and beers at the bimonthly meeting of Masskrugstemmen. Literally meaning “beer stein holding”, Masskrugstemmen will take place on Friday, May 13th at Friesenhaus. This traditional Bavarian endurance contest requires competitors to hold a one-liter stein of beer in one outstretched arm for as long as they can bear it. Filled to the brim with beer, participants must keep this five pound stein parallel to the ground at all times. No spilling. No sipping. Try to outlast everyone else and become the winner! More information on their Facebook page. [https://www.facebook.com/FriesenhausNB/timeline]
When: Friday, 6:00 PM-10:00PM
Where: Friesenhaus, 148 S Castell Ave
5. Find Good Food at the Farmers Market
Come to the Farmers Market on S Castell to take your pick at the wonderful food available to you. With more than 75 vendors every Saturday, this could be your only grocery stop all week. Farmers pick produce on Friday to bring to market on Saturday. Other than fruits and vegetables, you can find grass-fed meats, eggs, bacon, home necessities and skin care items, as well as hot food to eat while you shop. Spend the morning picking out fresh foods while listening to live music and enjoying the day with friends and family.
When: Saturday, 9:00AM-1:00PM
Where: New Braunfels Farmers Market, 186 S Castell
