Belmont was established in the 1840's as a stopping place for stagecoaches going from Gonzales to Seguin. By the 1850's, Belmont had 3 saloons, 2 hotels, 3 stores & 2 blacksmith shops. It also had a barbershop & the Stagecoach Stop! The spacious home was thought to have been the William Beaty Public Home (or Belmont INN) in 1861. It was the Stagecoach Stop where breakfast was served each morning. The William Beaty Public Home once consisted of just 2 rooms.
