Friday through Sunday, the competition will heat up on the incredibly well-manicured lawns of New Braunfels’ 122-acre Landa Park Golf Course. Even if you aren’t competing, this event is certainly worth checking out. Enjoy gorgeous Texas Hill Country views alongside the Comal River, where local wildlife are known to peek out for a glimpse of the game. 2. Explore the History of New Braunfels...for Free!

Did you know that the month of May is National Historic Preservation Month? Considering New Braunfels’ rich cultural roots and incredibly well-preserved heritage, this month is certainly something to celebrate. As a sort of local treat to history buffs, families, or anyone else looking for something to do this weekend, The City of New Braunfels’ Historic Landmark Commission is sponsoring the this Saturday’s “Free Historic Museum Day”! Local museums and historic sites will offer totally free admission to anyone looking to learn more about New Braunfels. Such historic museums include: The Lindheimer Museum, The New Braunfels Fire Station Museum, The New Braunfels Railroad Museum, The Buckhorn Barber Museum, The Sophienburg Museum, The Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture, The New Braunfels Conservation Society, and the Historic St. Martin Church.

3. Rock out at the Americana Music Jam

If there were ever a time to celebrate Americana music in New Braunfels, it’s this weekend. Always re-establishing itself as iconic in the Texas music industry, Gruene Hall continues its legacy with a killer lineup for the 20th annual KNBT Americana Music Jam. This tribute to the genre will begin with Tina Wilkins and end with Reckless Kelly...the hours in between will feature numerous artists, including Pat Green, Jack Ingram, Uncle Lucius, Cody Canada & The Departed, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Sean McConnell, Ed Jurdi & Gordy Quist (of The Band of Heathens), Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines, Seth James Band, Jamie Lin Wilson, Tom Gillam & The Kosmic Messengers, Walt Wilkins & The Mystiqueros, and far and more. Though the cost is $50, all proceeds will benefit The Crisis Center of Comal County and The Braunfels Foundation Trust. Though the lineup and schedule subject to change, your chance of having a great time are not!

4. Gain a Competitive Edge at Family Dodgeball

If the answer was “yes” to any of the above questions, you might be interested in joining other New Braunfels families in the Family Dodgeball Competition! Hosted at Landa Recreation Center this weekend, Family Dodgeball is sure to be a great way to spend time together.

5. Watch “Tree Climbing” take on a whole new meaning at the Texas Tree Climbing Championship

When most people think of “tree climbing”, they picture barefoot children in the backyard, sporting grass-stained knees and popsicle-stained mouths. Well, get ready for that image to change...this weekend, a hoard of “Professional Tree Climbing Arborists” will explore the canopies of Cypress Bend and Landa Parks at the 2016 Texas Tree Climbing Competition! Friday through Saturday, these professional tree climbers will show off their technical skills among the beautiful cypress and oak trees of New Braunfels parks. Events include the throwline, belayed speed climb, footlock, aerial rescue, and more. Plus, on Saturday afternoon, bystanders can enjoy the Arbor Fair, which will feature food trucks and recreational climbing area for children. Curious onlookers and tree-lovers alike will enjoy this unique event!
