All this weekend the Sophienburg Museum is hosting Weihnachtsmarkt, a German-style Christmas market. This event is a benefit for the museum itself, which helps preserve the memory of the German colonization of the area by means of exhibits, artifacts, photos, maps, and documents as well as presenting educational programs. At Weihnachtsmarkt, have a glass of wine as you stroll through, and shop through the decorations, specialty items, and other items offered by merchants, artisans, and authors. On Saturday morning (be sure to have a reservation), lLook at the holiday poinsettias as the kids visit with Santa in his workshop . For all of the information about the market and the schedule, please visit the website.

Spend a lovely evening in the Main Plaza of Downtown New Braunfels on Friday night and be a part of the Downtown Lighting Ceremony. This free event is put on by the NB Parks and Recreation Department and the Downtown Association to bring in the joyful season as a community and to give our little plaza a bit of flair. Bring the kids, because we will also be welcoming Santa to our town, and there will be treats and photo opportunities with Santa once he rolls in. Music will be provided by the Comal County Community Band.

Get Jazzy with the Texas Gypsies

This Friday, the Texas Gypsies are taking the stage at the Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre. This award winning band from North Texas plans to douse the Hill Country folks with their explosive vintage jazz swinging sounds of the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Their diverse influences range from Bob Wills “Western Swing” and that rockabilly genre that is too good to not get up and dance your heart out. The band’s line-up features members on the violin, horns, guitars, upright bass, and drums, which should rock the walls right off the Brauntex. Get your tickets here, and don’t forget to bring your toe tappin’ shoes!

Known as the “prettiest race in Texas,” Chosen is in the heart of central Texas between San Antonio and Austin where runners can race along the Guadalupe River with big trees, lush hills, and cliffs that should be in a photo magazine. Chosen provides financial, mentoring, and outreach resources for families who chose to adopt, foster, or advocate for orphaned children. For more information on the race and to register for a particular race, visit the race website. Don’t forget to stretch before!
