As if New Braunfels weren’t charming enough, this little town seems to receive an extra helping of holiday spirit every year. If you’re looking to infuse a little more Hill Country magic into your life this November and December, check out these 10 Holiday events in the New Braunfels area!
1. Gruene Town Lighting
On December 3rd starting at 5:00pm, Cowboy Kringle will ride into town on horseback to light Gruene up for the holidays! Join the rest of the town to celebrate with live musical performances, festival food, wine, holiday shopping, and more.
2. Christmas at the Caverns
On December 10th,11th and 17-23rd, Natural Bridge Caverns will transform into Christmas at the Caverns! Featuring thousands of lights and ample holiday attractions, guests can listen to carolers, take a countryside trek through lighted scenery, and stop into the Christmas Village.
Note: During this season of giving, the Caverns are asking visitors to help support the work of the San Antonio Food Bank! For every guest at the Caverns, they will donate $2 to the Food Bank, and every guest who brings two cans of food to donate to the Food Bank will receive a $2 gift card to use for food, beverage, or retail items at the park.
3. Santa’s Ranch
Nothing quite screams Texas Christmas” like “Santa’s Ranch”! Cruise through over a million dazzling lights and holiday scenes...all while sipping homemade hot cocoa. This Texas favorite runs from November 6th – January 2nd. Note: the maximum vehicle height is 8ft and length 30ft.
No Trailers, Buses, Limos, or RVs, please!
A classic New Braunfels tradition, Wassailfest is an evening of music, shopping, twinkling holiday lights and (of course) plenty of free wassail in historic downtown. When you’ve sampled all the Wassail, be sure to cast your vote for the People's Choice winner...and see if your choice is also selected by the Wassail-Meister's for their award! The festivities begin at 6 p.m. on December 1st.
5. Holiday Wine Trail
With over 40 participating wineries and vineyards, the Texas Wine Trail’s 2016 Christmas Wine Affair is sure to make sommeliers everywhere swoon with Christmas spirit. Enjoy the sounds of Christmas carols, bask in front of a cozy fireplace, and relax with your favorite glass of Texas cheer! Each ticket will include a Tasting Passport to be picked up at your first winery (selected at time of ticket purchase) and ONE collectible ornament.
6. Annual Tour of Homes
Join the Annual Tour of Homes for a peek into someone else’s living room! The tour features six homes in New Braunfels, as well as a refreshment stop at the Faust Hotel. The self-guided tour will be Saturday, December 3rd from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
7. Caroling on the Plaza
The sound of Christmas is upon us! Caroling on the Plaza will feature traditional Christmas Carols in English, German and Spanish, as well as special music from Comal County Schools and local musicians. Don’t miss this musical event on December 9th at 6:30pm.
8. Hometown Holiday Christmas Parade
A classic New Braunfels tradition, the Hometown Holiday Christmas Parade will herald holiday spirit through the city, starting in Prince Solms Park and ending at Bridge Street on Saturday, December 17 at 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
9. Old Gruene Christmas Market Days
Featuring over 100 vendors offering Christmas gifts, uniquely crafted items and packaged Texas foods, Old Gruene Christmas Market Days is a holiday twist on an old classic tradition. Head to the main plaza on December 3rd and 4th from 10:00am to 5:00pm...free admission!
10. Bah Humbug
On December 3rd, The Grapevine Garden will host a special performance of A Christmas Carol...with one amazing twist: one actor will play all the roles! In this magical re-telling of a holiday classic, award-winning stage actor Damian Gillen will perform the entirety of Bah Humbug, from Scrooge to Tiny Tim. The performance will feature numerous costume changes, special effects, and traditional Celtic Christmas tunes. Head to 1612 Hunter Rd on December 3rd at 1:00pm to see the fun.
