Five Things to Do in New Braunfels (and Seguin!) This Weekend (September 16-18)

There’s always something happening in New Braunfels! Though the small-town atmosphere is alive and well, the local calendar is anything but sleepy. This weekend is no exception: you have your choice of multiple events, deals, and happenings in and around town. No need to research...here are some of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels (and one in Seguin!) this weekend!

Watch a Performance at the Theatre

Put on your evening’s best and head down to the theatre to catch a stage performance of Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee’s “Inherit the Wind.” The story is a fictional account of the real-life 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial, which discusses the unlawfulness to teach human evolution in any state-funded school. This play originally premiered in 1955, and the success and popularity of it have continued to be revived and adapted decades after. Tickets can be found on the website.  Be sure to get them quick! It is the last weekend to see this performance before the season ends.

When: Friday & Saturday @ 8:00PM, Sunday @ 2:00PM

Where: Circle Arts Theatre, 124 Elizabeth St

Go on a Moonlit Date on Landa Lake

Looking for a place to go on a romantic date? The City of New Braunfels is thinking about you this weekend and wants to aid in your search for the best night ever with your love. Couples can make their way down to the lake and collect a basket of delicious finger foods, desserts, and beverages while they hop into a paddleboat and view the moonlit skies from below. Floating and chatting and staring and laughing, this is a sure way to make the night a very special one. Tickets are $30, preregistration is required, and ages 16+ are allowed. Please call 830-221-4370 to register.

The Comal County Fairgrounds will be buzzing this weekend with a slew of Hill Country events. The Annual Barbecue Cookoff will take place Friday and Saturday, so save room in that stomach to try out some of our neighbor’s special recipes. The Washer Pitchin’ Tournament is also going on all weekend, and registration is open until 30 minutes before the throw. Other events are the Best Western Dressed, begging the questions of who can wear the best Western apparel (no rodeo clown costumes, there is a separate contest for that... seriously), the Rodeo Queens Contest (personality and horsemanship skills required), the Pig Wrangler Contest (no description needed), Stick Horse Races (racing with the old broomstick horse), and the famous Mutton Bustin’ Blow Out. There is too much fun happening this weekend at the fairgrounds. Don’t miss out! More information on the website.
