Five Things to Do in New Braunfels This Weekend (December 23-25)

New Braunfels residents love that the town provides so much to see and do while still maintaining a great culture and small town feel. This weekend is no exception; there are a variety of different “things” happening in and around town. No need to research, five of the best fun things to do in New Braunfels this weekend are described below. Hopefully, this list will make planning a perfect Texas Hill Country weekend a little easier!

This weekend is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so many places will be closed for the holidays. However, we made a list of some fun things still happening around town and some alternatives to going to big events for the weekend.

See Ray Wylie Hubbard Perform

Kick off the crazy holiday weekend by heading over to the historic Gruene Hall to watch local legend Ray Wylie Hubbard. Known for his songs “Snake Farm” and “Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother”, Hubbard plans on bringing his Texas Hill Country music to the stage. In support of his newest release of “The Ruffian’s Misfortune”, expect to hear some autobiographical lyrics laden with honesty and maybe even a few Christmas tunes. Being a local, Hubbard considers Gruene Hall to be a homecoming venue for him and his rocking band. Doors are at 7:00 PM and Buffalo Ruckus kicks off the night at 8:00 PM.  Tickets are available here. Get them while you can!

When: Doors at 7:00 PM

Where: Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd

Shop at the Farmer’s Market

Winter is here and the family is coming to town looking for a home cooked meal. If you want that fresh food for Christmas dinner, then look no further than the New Braunfels Farmer’s Market. Local farmers and vendors (75 of them!) grab produce on Friday to sell fresh at the market, just like the old days. Goodies include grass-fed meats, eggs, bacon, pantry items, skin care, home and laundry care, baked goods, and some food hot and ready to eat! This is a sure way to get compliments from your relatives!

When: Saturday, 9:00AM-1:00PM

Where: New Braunfels Farmer’s Market, 186 S Castell Ave

Grab Some Coffee and Dessert at 2Tarts

For many, the Christmas holiday is all about amazing sweets and hot drinks. We are pretty blessed to have 2 Tarts Bakery right up the road and open on Christmas Eve! Get over to “Sweet” 300 for a cup of mighty fine coffee or a hot chocolate with a peppermint splash, pick out a fun and festive holiday dessert to enjoy, and make the night feel like a Hallmark Christmas movie. The cupcakes and cookies are always a favorite, but we would suspect that they might have some fun Christmas treats just for the holidays.

When: Christmas Eve Hours 7:00AM-5:00 PM

Where: 2 Tarts Bakery, 139 N Castell Ave, Sweet 300

Take a Break From the In-Laws on Christmas Night

If your family is like many, usually the obligatory family get together ends at around 6 o’clock. If you are hosting the in-laws (or cousins and other relatives!), there is always a desire to get out of the house after spending all day unwrapping gifts and eating lots and lots of food. Luckily, our neighbors at The Phoenix Saloon understand that, and are going to open their doors at 6:00 PM! Take a break from the fam (or take the ones you like!) out for a beer and a fun and friendly atmosphere to wind down from the crazy festivities of Christmas. Not celebrating Christmas? Well, then maybe the Phoenix was thinking about you on Christmas Day. This may be the greatest gift of all.

When: Opens at 6:00 PM

Where: The Phoenix Saloon, 193 W San Antonio St

Stay In and Have a Cozy Christmas

For those of you who read this article and think, “But it’s Christmas! We should be staying in with our families!”…this one is for you! One of our favorite holiday traditions is to put on a classic Christmas movie (A Christmas Story, White Christmas, Christmas Vacation), drink hot cocoa and wassail, and bake some chocolate chip and snickerdoodle cookies from scratch. Put the pajama pants on, turn on the Christmas tree lights, and stay in for the night with close family and friends to enjoy each other’s company and share some laughs.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Keller Williams!
