Valentine’s Day is just around the corner...and if you’re as busy as we’ve been, you might be scrambling to come up with the perfect plan for you and your sweetheart. Lucky for us, we live in one of the more charming towns in Texas! It wasn’t hard to come up with a list of phenomenal local Valentine’s day dates.
Whether you’re looking for a wildly exceptional dinner-and-a-movie or want to try something more offbeat, here are 7 fun things to do on Valentine’s Day!
1. Have a Special Dinner at a Historic Restaurant

Some of us can’t carve out a long, extended date night in the middle of a week (you know, because of work and babysitters and soccer practice and laundry and all the rest). If a nice meal is all you have time for, The Faust Hotel & Brewing Company has you covered! This historic establishment is offering a romantic dining experience on for $39.95 per person. Enjoy options from a pre-fixe 3-course dinner menu that includes delicious plates like beef béarnaise and New York style cheesecake. The Faust will also have Fred Coons playing piano throughout the night to set the mood. Reservations are required! Call 830.625.7791 to save your spot.

2. See a Drive-in Movie

If you can’t get a babysitter but still want to do something fun for the night, Stars and Stripes Drive-in Theatre is a wonderfully unique and nostalgic place to entertain folks of all ages in the Hill Country. Park your car in front of the screen, unpack the lawn chairs, and head to the concession stand for the full experience. This old-fashioned way of watching movies sure hasn’t gone out of style around here! I’m personally a believer that classic movies are the most romantic. Screen One is showing Action/Horror combo John Wick 2 and The Bye Bye Man, while Screen Two offers up the Lego Batman Movie and Monster Trucks (for the kids). Screen Three starts sweet and ends creepy with A Dog’s Purpose and Split. For movie times and tickets, check out the website!

3. Have a Picnic in Landa Park

Planning your Valentine’s Day date might prove to be difficult if you and your love aren’t quite as social as the rest of the world. That’s okay! Keep your romance between the two of you and spend a night strolling around Landa Park. Prep a light meal of cheese, bread, and other goodies (and maybe that bottle of wine you’ve been dying to try) in a nice picnic basket (this one looks dreamy). Spend the evening under the stars, laughing and dreaming about where your love will take you next.

What’s more romantic than a night in a historic mansion? Gruene Mansion Inn was built in 1872 and has kept its old-world charm ever since! This bed and breakfast holds history within its walls and is one of the cornerstones of Historic Gruene. Get a room, tune out the worries of work and life, and enjoy one another. If you must go outside, stroll past Gruene Hall, the Gristmill, and all of the lovely shops lining the streets. Gruene Mansion Inn is running a special for Valentine’s Day - all rooms are 14% off and include a free bottle of wine! Simply use the promo code “LOVE” when booking online. Don’t wait!

Looking for an out-of-the-box option for you and your significant other? Painting with a Twist is offering some special sessions just for Valentine’s Day. Painting with a Twist is a BYOB art studio for adults who aren’t necessarily skilled in the art of painting, but want to stretch their artistic muscles and drink a little beer or wine in a laid back environment. The studio offers two different themes for the night: “Love Potion” and “Love in Texas.” The couple will paint on both sides of the same canvas to create a joint work of art. (And heck...for any single people out there, this may be a great way to meet someone.) Registration is required to hold your spot, and seating is limited. Sign up here!

7. Dust Off Your Dancing Shoes

For those of you who are more outgoing, get out there and go dancing! New Braunfels is home to some of the best dancing in Texas, and it’s time to shake the dust off your dancing boots and hit the wood floors for some fun. Conway’s on 262 W Jahn St offers dance lessons on Tuesday nights (that’s Valentine’s Day!) at 6:30 and 7:30 pm. If you can’t go out on Tuesday and want to have your date the weekend before, the Goodtime Polka & Waltz Club meets at Eagles Hall on Saturdays and Sundays for big polka dances. This is a unique and great way to laugh and learn a new dance with the one you love.
