1. Go to the County Fair

Sunday is your last chance to check out the Comal County Fair before they pack up and leave until next year. Grab the whole family and enjoy all the fun with great food, fun carnival rides, and events put on throughout the day. Check out the full schedule here!

2. Take an Acting Class

The Brauntex Performing Arts Theatre is putting on an acting class for adults over 50 years of age starting the first Tuesday of October. Looking for something fun to spice up the middle of the week? 3. Get Wild at the Music and Wine Festival

You might notice that New Braunfels gets pretty excited for autumn to arrive, and a lot of festivals start to occur every weekend. The Gruene Music and Wine Festival is celebrating 31 years of bringing good tunes and good grapes to the Historic District in Gruene. Taste several different wines from many Texas vineyards, and stick around for music from many artists, including Asleep at the Wheel!

4. Go on a Cemetery Tour

Get the spooky events in early this year with a historical tour of the Comal Cemetery. Opened in 1868, the Comal Cemetery is the resting place for some of the major New Braunfels citizens - including founders. The event is called “Soul Searching”, so maybe you’ll find something about yourself on the tour, or maybe you’ll find something else…*cue spooky sounds*.

5. Compete in a Triathlon

Everyone is getting a little Wurstfest crazy, so why not relieve some of that energy by competing in the Wurst Tri Ever on October 8th. 6. Learn Archery

For $5, hone your archery skills at Fischer Park with a TPWD Certified Instructor to teach you everything you need to know. This is a beginner class, so feel free to bring anyone to join in on the fun. Pre-registration is required, check out the website for more information.

7. Get Your Dirndl Ready

Have you ever gone to Wurstfest and wished you invested in a dirndl or lederhosen? Get a head start this year by going to Water 2 Wine for their Drindl and Wine event where Once in a Blue Moon will bring racks of beautiful clothes for your shopping pleasure. Sip some wine and buy some German clothes all on a Wednesday!

8. Tell Spooky Stories

9. See Some Fall Films

Fischer Park is putting on a series of Fall Flicks to bring family and friends to every Friday this October. Movies on the schedule are Moana, The Lorax, Zootopia, and Hocus Pocus. Food and drinks are available for purchase from Taco Palenque.

10. Have a Nerf War

Fathers and sons, this is an event just for you! Torrey Park is playing host to a father-and-son Nerf war. Bring your favorite gun to the park get ready for a fun competition. The event is $5, and snacks will be provided. Register here to get your names in the competition!

11. Play Kickball

12. Roll and Read

McKenna Children’s Museum, NB Public Library, and NB Parks and Recreation are putting on the 4th annual Roll and Read at the end of this month. Grab the kids and the stroller and head to Landa Park where parents and children can walk, bike, skate, ride in a stroller, or whatever form of rolling you want to make the mile around Landa Park. At rest stops, enjoy plenty of children’s books to read before finishing the lap!

13. Peruse an Art Festival

The Second Annual Fall Into Art Festival is happening the last weekend of October, and you don’t want to miss it! Dozens and dozens of local and regional artists gather and show off their creations at this festival, which is free to attend. There will be entertainment throughout the weekend, food, art (some of which will be available for purchase), and more.

14. Celebrate the Dia de Los Muertos

Downtown New Braunfels will be crawling with sugar skulls and great fun the last Saturday of the month at the Dia de Los Muertos Festival. Admission is free and will feature cultural foods, drinks, arts & crafts, shopping, and live entertainment. Listen to great music from a Mariachi band, Folklorico dancers, and Tejano acts Sunny Sauceda and Crystal Garza. More information on their Facebook event page!

Halloween is a widespread favorite holiday for a few key reasons: autumn weather, costumes, and candy.
