Though just a few years ago (or so it seems) New Braunfels was just a river town where people came to go toobing or go to Schlitterbahn for the day; lately, this (not so little) river city has become quite the popular location for folks to relocate to. Perhaps attributed to the small town atmosphere, the loads of community activities available, or the absolutely excellent location, the city has seen its population grow from a little under 58k people to over 70k people in just five years.
Rewind back just a few years and you might have heard someone say, “I can’t believe how cheap the houses are in New Braunfels!” But, even though we all knew how amazing our little German city was (is), once the world found out, those housing prices shot up like a rocket taking off out of NASA. Nowadays, the words “affordable” and “New Braunfels homes” don’t often go together. And if they do, you can rest assured that the few “affordable homes” being mentioned will have been snatched up before you can even get to your computer to take a gander.
While the median price of a home in New Braunfels used to be less than homes in Austin and San Antonio, they certainly aren’t anymore. In fact, New Braunfels now fits right in the middle of the two, with Austin’s median price being $285,000 and San Antonio’s being $211,000. Coming in at a median price of $235,000 (up 5% from last year), nearly three-quarters of the homes in New Braunfels sell for somewhere between $200k- $499k. The other quarter?
